Leogang is situated in Pinzgau at an elevation of 800 m between the Leogang Steinbergen (Stone Mountains) in the north and the Kitzbühel Alps in the south. Already in 928 the village was first referred to in documents as “Liuganga”, which means stream. Today, the village is known in local dialect as “Loigom”. Leogang is one of the oldest mining sites in the province of Salzburg.
Rolling hills, friendly green grass-covered mountains, rugged rocky peaks and with picturesque lakes in-between invite you to a relaxed hike with the family. Hiking sticks, rucksacks and rain-jackets you receive free-of-charge at Forsthofgut. There are a total of 400 km a signposted hiking and cycling paths available. For mountain bikers and downhill-fans, the Leogang Bikepark was developed in 2002. And for all those who prefer something more comfortable, the Hotel has a fleet of electric-bikes available.
Leogang is also a paradise for golfers. Within 30 minutes there are eight golf clubs, with a choice of 9- to 36-hole courses. Range fees without charge and rounds of golf with the hotel manager Christoph Schmuck are offered by the hotel.
Tennis courts are only two minutes from the hotel. Group courses are available here as is individual tuition.
The most important attraction in winter is the ski-circuit Saalbach-Hinterglemm/Leogang, which, with its total of over 400 km of pistes, forms the largest continuous skiing area in Austria. The Leogang cable railway immediately next to Hotel Forsthofgut offers access to the ski-circuit. An 8-seater gondola lift brings the winter sportsman to 1800 m within a few minutes. In addition to its own pistes in Leogang, the pistes in Saalbach and Hinterglemm can be reached directly using the ski area link. In the hotel there is a ski-school service and 100 m away a large ski-kindergarten. Toboggan hire and a lit family toboggan run are also available free of charge.
